Target
Wellness and skills building among the youth
The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and resultant lockdowns left several youths unemployed, and
or jobless, with many more young people dropping out and losing interest in education (due
to the lengthy closure of education facilities in Uganda). Noting that Uganda already has a high
unemployment level of youth OWF is responding through the RiseUp Project. In collaboration
with ACI, Open World Foundation identified 40 youths and provided them with mentorship
and skills training in areas of research, ethical consideration, and safeguarding during data
collection, community entry, and language for different target groups and mobile-based data
collection using Kobo Collect and ODK. All of these youths were linked to obtaining temporary
employment in various studies that have been conducted by ACI since 2020. Training in
record keeping, hotel management, and customer relations was also given to 5 Youths,
followed by linkage to Eureka Place Hotel for internship opportunities.
